Fellows featured at OECD 2011 Foresight Forum

The 2011 OECD Foresight Forum was held on 26 October 2011 in Paris. This year’s meeting explored current major developments shaping mobile communication, as well as challenges and opportunities for the coming 5-10 years.

Following last year’s successful fellowship, ITAC had the opportunity to contribute again to the Forum by enabling the participation of two young fellows from the Internet Society’s Next Generation Leaders programme (NGL).

ITAC participation to the OECD Workshop on Broadband Metrics (12-13 October 2011, Washington D.C.)

The Internet Technical Advisory Committee participated to the OECD workshop on “Broadband and Its Impact on Consumers and Economies: Developing a New Framework for Future Metrics”. This workshop was hosted by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and co-chaired by the United States Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., United States, on 12-13 October 2011.

The Internet Technical Advisory Committee participated to the OECD workshop on “Broadband and Its Impact on Consumers and Economies: Developing a New Framework for Future Metrics”, hosted by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and co-chaired by the United States Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., United States, on 12-13 October 2011.

This technical workshop is a direct outcome of the OECD’s High Level Meeting on the Internet Economy that was held in Paris in June 2011. Its objective is to discuss existing international data collections and to consider future work to further harmonize and augment broadband related data collections across OECD economies.

Mat Ford, Technology Programme Manager at ISOC, did a presentation on Broadband & Internet Service.

ITAC also submitted a paper introducing a definition of Internet service as a precursor to developing standardized measurement methodologies for broadband infrastructure deployment.

Internet Technical Advisory Committee expresses support for OECD multistakeholder approach

PARIS – 29 June 2011 – In conjunction with the OECD High Level Meeting on “The Internet Economy: Generating Innovation and Growth” held on 28-29 June 2011, the Internet Technical Advisory Committee (ITAC)–a worldwide coalition of Internet organizations invited by the OECD to provide input on Internet-related issues–today endorsed the communiqué issued by the OECD. The ITAC expressed broad satisfaction with the OECD’s approach to ensuring the Internet continues to serve as a platform for innovation, economic development and social progress throughout the world, including OECD countries.

ITAC supported the recognition in the communiqué of fundamental principles, such as the promotion and protection of the global free flow of information; promotion of the open, distributed and interconnected nature of the Internet; and encouragement of multistakeholder co-operation in policy development processes. OECD topic: Internet intermediaries

The ICCP’s horizontal project on Internet intermediaries - Forging Partnerships for Advancing Policy Objectives for the Internet Economy - follows up on the Ministerial mandate given to the OECD in the Seoul Declaration in 2008 to examine ”the role of various actors, including intermediaries, in meeting policy goals for the Internet economy in areas such as combating threats to the security and stability of the internet, enabling cross-border exchange, and broadening access to information”. ITAC preparing its participation to the OECD High-Level Meeting on the Internet Economy (28-29 June 2011, Paris)

The Internet Technical Advisory Committee to the OECD (ITAC) will participate to the OECD High-Level Meeting on “The Internet Economy: Generating Innovation and Growth”, which will be held on 28-29 June 2011 at the OECD Headquarters in Paris.

ITAC has been invited to fully participate in the meeting and contribute to its formal outcome, which should highlight key Internet policy-making principles to ensure economic growth and open innovation.

Four representatives of ITAC organizations have been selected by the OECD as speakers for this major event:

  • Tim Berners-Lee, Director, World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
  • Leslie Daigle, Chief Internet Technology Officer, Internet Society (ISOC)
